Josephine and Cabbage

The pigs have been dispatched and the freezer is now full of hams, bacon and sausages. It was difficult to do the deed but thats why we got them and they had a happy life, which is more than can be said for most of the pork peolpe consumethese days.

Saving the hay

A neighbour offered us a field to cut and save hay from so we jumped at the chance. It had been cut but needed to be turned a good few times to dry, which we did by hand. The kids were great and got stuck in (mostly). Another neighbour ran over it with his baler and we got 37 bales out of of it. Not bad and it'll feed sweetie for some time.

The Swallows

The swalows in our shed have hatched a second clutch of chicks and they have flown but return to the nest in the evenings. It's lovely to see them playing in the sky with the clutch from earlier in the summer. Here's a photo of them resting after a long day playing in the air.

Puffball mushrooms

Super news. Henry found puffball mushrooms under the trees at the top of the boreen. We sliced them like cheese and fried them on the pan in butter. Yumeeeee.

The two saddle-back pigs have settled in and are knocking back the slop. They are funny and we're so happy to have them here.

Painting Izzy's room

Izzy wanted more of an outside feel to her room so now it's all blue skies and big trees. And once people saw paint being thrown onto walls, everyone got in on the act. You could call it a family tree.

The Big Freeze

3 inch thick ice on the flood in our field. Great for ice skating and even good for licking!
